My son decided that he needed some vehicles so he shopped from the Lego City Series and found two sets he liked. One was a police vehicle so he just left off the stickers and “lights” to make it look like a regular car. He did the same thing with the motorcycle. Then he made his own car as well and we had a fleet of cars! I asked him what we should build to play with and compliment the vehicles. He decided on a mini-mart and gas station rest stop where travelers could gas up and get items they needed. From start to finish it took 5 hours and we had ourselves an awesome new Lego set up. This is the Best way to beat the winter blues!
The mini mart was a combined effort of my son and I. We wanted a Fun place where you can stop off on your way to a riot and pick up the necessities such as pitchforks and an ax. If you are skipping the riots we have everything else you might need from footballs, to treasure maps to gas masks and fresh baguettes!
Do you want to share photos of your child’s or family’s lego creations?
I would LOVE to post them here! Just send me your pics in an
email with the names and captions to be used to dapperhouse@gmail.com
so that I can put together a Blog Fan Lego Creation Page for our blog!
If you have anything to add to this post please leave your thoughts in the comment section.

First of all, could your son look any more like you??? LOL I have not gotten Lego’s for any of the kids in my family, however I used to work in a group home and they had several Lego sets. The kids made bridges and skyscrapers. I don’t really know what sets there are. I do know that we used to have the kids clean up and make sure they picked up every little piece of Lego, lol Unfortunately they always seemed to miss some that myself or another staff member without shoes on, would step on, lol I think that’s why I haven’t gotten them for gifts to kids; I think their parents might not want to pick every little piece up, lol I know they can be used to teach as well as for fun, but my nieces and nephew are too young for them right now. 🙂

Legos rock! I know they have always been popular but they seem to have just exploded recently. I don’t remember there being such a HUGE variety as a kid. Luckily I’ll never be too old to play!!

My son loves legos as well. I love to play them with him sometimes and he will ask me to make him things.. The only way I can really do it though is to look at a picture and count how many pieces go here, and how many go there… I am not very creative and have difficulty making things on my own. Looks like you guys do a great job!

I happen to LOVE Legos! so this is a great post for me! What a good Lego construction worker your son is. He is such a cutie too! He probably doesn’t want to be called cute, so I’ll say handsome…

I agree, your son is like a little mini-you. I used to play with legos when I was little, I remember I always made a little garden with flowers and a house on one of those big flat green lego pieces.

Super cool creations! We played with Legos as kids and now my two sons love them. Only thing I don’t like is how my youngest leaves them all over the house LOL

Those are awesome creations and I LOVE the attention to detail in the mini mart! My oldest has a Lego City construction item and buckets full of Legos. My youngest has the large toddler Legos. Legos are a lot of fun and can foster creativity which is great. My issues with them is that they are tiny pieces that hurt when you step on them and that it can sometimes be hard to keep sets together.

My son LOVES building Legos he is 13 years old and still builds them everyday. I really don’t mind because as long as he is building he is staying out of trouble. I even help him sometimes build some stuff that he needs help with.

Wow! That definitely looks like a fun time. I love legos as they’re such a versatile toy, you can do absolutely anything with them. They’re almost the perfect toy…if only something could be done about how painful they are to step on!

I used to love playing legos with my son. I hope my daughter will play too.

Legos are wonderful. They encourage growth in motor skills and creativity. I love all the projects/ideas you and your son came up with. There are so many different things to build, tear down, and build again.

What a classic toy! My brother in law in an adult who plays with legos – hey you can make some really neat things (as you know).

legos are certainly timeless, I can remember playing with my now 20 yr old son when he was 8 or 9. We still have his sets and are waiting for his 2 sons to get a bit older before we hand them down. great creations by the way!

We are LEGO Junkies in this house! And I LOVE your mini-mart!! I played with Legos as a kid and saved the collection that my sister and I accumulated throughout the years. My 4 kids added their blocks to mine and we now have more LEGO bricks and accessories than I could ever count! It takes 3 toy chests from IKEA to store them in! They look like window seats lined up across the wall in the library of our house — which we should just start calling the Lego Room.

I LOVE LEGOS!!!! I have a TON of Lego sets/kits, my hubby spoils me with them. I just wish I had a space to “display” them without my children destroying them. We have built in china cabinets with stained glass doors, but most of my LEGOs are too large… either too wide, too tall or too long. 🙁

I can’t wait til my kids are old enough to graduate from megablocks to the smaller lego. I still have all my old lego from when I was a kid.
