If you are coming back for more fun and fast ways to make the most of the time you have with your child, you are going to love this! Talking a child’s favorite song and turning it into a game or activity is easy and something that your child will enjoy doing with you! Do you know the song Five Little Speckled Frogs? This was one of my favorites to sing with my mom and I taught it to my children too. There are different versions of the lyrics so you don’t have to use mine if you have your own favorite. If you are new to this song then Woo Hoo! You are going to love this cute and educational song as much as your child.
There are two versions to making and doing this activity. You can either get out a pen and paper and draw your own frogs, or you can use the free printables that I drew. Either way you are going to need 5 frogs, a log and a pond. You will need:
- paper (white and construction paper if you wish for the log and/or pond)
- pen or printer
- scissors
- crayons or markers
Step 1: Draw or print your frogs and Log.
TIP: you could do three frogs if your child cant count as high as 5, has a short attention span, or you are short on time.
Step 2: Cut out your frogs and log. Use a piece of paper for the “pool”.
Step 3: You and your child color everything together. (Or you let your child do all the work like I did)
Step 4: set up the frogs on the log with the pond underneath and PLAY!
You can look up the song on You Tube if you don’t know how the tune goes. Other than that, the concept is very simple and you dont even have to sing the song if you don’t want to. The point is to have fun together. Here’s how it goes:
Five little speckled frogs,
Sitting on a wooden log,
Eating the most delicious lunch. Yum. Yum.
One jumped into the pool, (child moves one frog off the log and into the pond)
Where it was nice and cool,
Now there are only 4 little speckled frogs.
repeat with the new amount of frogs . . .
Four little speckled frogs, Sitting on a wooden log, eating the most delicious lunch. Yum. Yum. One jumped into the pool, where it was nice and cool, then there were only three little speckled frogs.
AGAIN! Three little speckled frogs. . . and so on . . . enjoy!

I’ve never heard the song before. I am not sure if my kids have, but I doubt it. This is a cute craft for anyone who loves frogs, though.

This is a great craft for afternoons with my nephews who are too young for preschool yet, but always ready for a fun silly craft with Auntie. I love it. I agree with an earlier comment – attach the printable! I’d definitely download and print!
