Every year we look forward to summer because if movies are right, we will easily be able to prance around with sun-kissed skin, and our perfect tan will cover up those little imperfections such as cellulite or stretch marks. And every year instead of radiant skin we end up with dry, and sometimes even infected skin. After all, the concrete-melting heat, pollution, and humidity wipe off the natural glow and cause inflammation and other issues. This year, to welcome summer completely ready and to experience only the positive aspects of summer, follow these skincare tips.
Exfoliate regularly
Your skin sheds dead skin cells on a daily basis, and if you don’t get them off, they will just sit on your body making your skin look dull and dry. You can use a ton of lotion every day, but if you skip this step, you won’t be able to achieve glowing skin. Therefore, take your body scrub with you and hit the shower. However, remember to be gentle, it is your skin after all. With circular movements rub the exfoliator all over your body and rinse afterward. You should do this twice a week, not just during the summer but all year round.
Opt for light summer lotions
During the winter we are all about butter and heavy lotions that protect our skin from cold weather and wind. However, in the summer you shouldn’t stick with the same skincare routine. Instead, go with lighter summery lotions that are fast absorbing and apply them after your shower. Wear a sunscreen
If you are one of those people who are able to use one bottle of sunscreen for several years, keep in mind that this product is not meant to last forever. It has an expiration date, and afterward it practically becomes useless. Get a new sunscreen that has UVA and UVB ingredients and comes with an SPF of at least 30. However, keep in mind that you should apply it at least 20 minutes before you head out the door, so it has time to activate.
Tone down your makeup
During those hot summer days when you feel like even breathing is making you sweat, eye makeup is not something you want on your face. It can only get smudged and you will end up looking like you’ve just escaped from the circus. When it comes to foundation, if you really have to use it, then also apply face powder with SPF to avoid patchy skin. Your lip balm should also come with an SPF factor. In summer, less is definitely more, so don’t overdo your makeup and let your skin breathe as much as possible.
Do not forget to hydrate
Every day you should drink at least 8 glasses of water. When temperatures are high you can easily dehydrate, which causes a load of issues, dry and flaky skin included. Therefore, carry a water bottle with you and take a sip every half an hour. If water isn’t exactly your favorite beverage and you cannot force yourself to drink so many glasses of it, unsweetened tea or lemonade will also do the trick. However, lay of alcoholic beverages since they also tend to dry out the skin.
If you wish to avoid annoying rashes and sunburns this summer as well as uneven tan and acne, you need to protect your skin from the impact of the scorching sun. Use these tips to up your skincare game and enjoy your summer to the fullest.
