Living off grid is an adventure in and of itself. However, it’s an adventure that one should always be prepared for. It’s not the best idea when you decide to leave your home and live in the mountains for a few weeks with nothing more than a sleeping bag and knife. There are certain items that are essential for off grid living, here are seven of our favourites. 

Solar Batteries 

When you live on the road, you need to make the most of the resources around you. Thankfully, we can make use of the sun’s power thanks to solar batteries deep cycle and ensure that we have a steady supply of electricity when we need it the most. 

Hunting Knife 

Whether you’re cutting off some fruit from a tree or defending yourself from a wild animal, you’ll never know when you’ll need to pull out your hunting knife. It’s always a good idea to keep one of these near you in case of an emergency.

If you’re not the biggest fan of going al fresco when it comes to the bathroom, we recommend you invest in a composting toilet. You can purchase dry portable toilets that turn your waste into biological compost!

One of the other things you’ll need to account for is the lack of light in many spaces. You’ll need to be able to see during the night and it’s difficult to get anything done with a massive flashlight in your hand. A hybrid headlight gives you the comfort of both when you need to be hands-free you can simply strap it onto your forehead.   

Portable Stove 

You can be a foodie and live off-grid at the same time, all you need to do so is a portable stove. There are tons of different sizes and models to fit any budget or need, so make sure you do your research before you invest in one.

Cell Signal Booster 

Sometimes when you’re far away from civilization the last thing you’ll get is good service. However, you can purchase a cell signal booster to help your device remain connected. This way you know you’ll be safe if you need to call in case of an emergency. 

First Aid Kit 

Last but definitely not least, you’ll need a well-equipped first aid kit to keep you covered. When you accidentally slice your finger, you won’t want to drive hours to the hospital to get it fixed. Instead, brush up your first aid skills and invest in a comprehensive kit that will keep you safe and secure.  

The most important thing that you’ll need for off the grid living is a great attitude. Things can get tough, especially when you’re used to a life of simple luxuries, like a warm shower every morning and a thick mattress to sleep on at night.
