How to Apply Lemon Juice to Acne Scars
This regimine is good to do as part of your nightly skin regimen. Wash, dry and apply a lightweight mousturizer to your skin.
Cut and squeeze a lemon into a shallow bowl or flat dish. Dip a Q-tip into the undiluted lemon juice and dab the juice over the acne scars on your skin. Allow it to dry on your skin without rinsing it off – if your skin feels excessively sticky, you may have applied too much juice. In this case, you can use a damp, soft cloth to remove the excess juice by dabbing lightly. If it burns too much, rinse it off.
Keep lemon juice away from eyes, mouth and cracked skin.
Allow the acne scar treatment to remain on your skin overnight. For severe acne scars, you may wish to apply lemon juice during the day as well.
Follow this routine as long as the lemon juice is lightening the dark scars. Do not use if irritation occurs.
Precautions
Applying fresh lemon juice to acne scars may temporarily increase the redness in your skin and lead to slight burning and itching. Any broken skin or existing pimples in the area may sting if the lemon juice seeps into the open skin. Applying lemon juice to treat acne scars may also lead to excess burning if you’ve just exfoliated your skin and sloughed off the top layer.
If the home treatment for acne scars begins to dry out your skin, apply an additional moisturizer that suits your skin tone and sensitivity. For those with sensitive, dry skin, consider leaving the lemon juice on for one to two hours and rinse it off before applying moisturizer rather than allowing the juice to remain on your skin overnight or throughout the day.
