My son was SO excited to get a letter from the white house! A real letter from THE President of the United States!! His art class at school drew pictures of President Obama and sent them to him with a letter. The class received a letter back from the White House and the students were very surprised and excited. My son holds his copy of this letter as a treasure and your child may like this too! It is much easier and faster to get an e-mail response, but you can write a regular letter as well. Just be sure to follow these important steps. . .

  1. Type your letter on regular 8 1/2 by 11 inch paper. If you hand write the letter use pen and write as neatly as you can.
  2. Be certain to put your return address on your envelope.
  3. TIP: (They are more likely to return a message in e-mail so you can include your e-mail address in your letter, then just print out the e-mail!)
  4. Send your letter to this address:

The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500

This is a great opportunity for your child to learn about the President and his responsibilities. You could do research with your child to find some of the beliefs and stands that the President has that agree with your child’s ideas. Then your child could write a letter explaining why they share some beliefs and  wish the President well in trying to make the world a better place! Even if you don’t agree with Democrats or Obama, you can help your child understand the importance of knowing the issues & candidates, voting, and supporting whomever democracy allows us to vote into office. Teach your child the rights of Americans to have Democracy and what that means to us in the world. Many learning opportunities here! Have FUN!
