Black Creativity began in 1970 as a tribute to the culture, heritage and contributions of African Americans in the arts. Now, 50 years later, the program has evolved to also highlight achievements in scientific fields. Here at the Museum of Science and Industry we’re commemorating this anniversary with a robust calendar of experiences and events during Black History Month.
The Museum of Science and Industry celebrates the rich contributions of African Americans in science, technology, engineering, art and medicine with a robust series of experiences and events during Black Creativity’s milestone anniversary. Beginning in 1970 as a tribute to African Americans in the arts, Black Creativity has grown to feature the nation’s longest-running exhibition of African-American art along with exhibits, events and educational programs. Black Creativity aims to deepen students’ engagement through hands-on learning and expose African-American youth to careers and opportunities in creative and STEM fields.
They also have a Juried Art Exhibition with over 200 dynamic works from both professional and amateur African-American artists from around the country.
This longest-running exhibition of African-American art has been displayed annually at MSI since 1970. Black Creativity Juried Art Exhibition features paintings, drawings, fine art prints, sculpture, mixed-media, ceramics and photography by African Americans, including youth artists between the ages of 14 and 17.
