Why You Need to Get Screened for Kidney Disease

Since my kidney transplant in 2014, my wife and I have become part of the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois. We attend events, raise money and help them raise awareness. The reason that we support their message and purpose is because it promotes early detection with their mobile testing units, something that I wish was available to me, because by the time i found out that i had the disease, it it was entirely too late. There are rarely any symptoms of kidney disease, and typically when you find out you have the disease you are in the later stages of renal failure and it will be tough if not impossible, to reverse any previous damage. Many people could be treated early if they would only get tested just to find out if they are at risk. A fast and simple blood test or urine test is all it takes and can save you from the crippling effects of kidney disease that I have faced before and after my transplant.
Awareness, donations, volunteer hours, and activities bring about real change in communities. Today we ask you to join the movement, help prevent kidney disease and do what you can to help.
