For any new homeowner, moving into a property is an exciting time and so it’s important that you do everything you can as an owner yourself, to prepare the property they’re moving into.
It goes without saying that you’d hopefully want to leave your old property how you’d like to receive your new one, clean and tidy. Unfortunately that’s not always the case for some homeowners though. With that being said, here are some helpful tips to prepare your home for new owners coming in.
Depersonalize the spaces
When you’re moving out of the home you lived in for so many years, you’ve likely left a lot of memories behind. Therefore, it’s important that you’re depersonalizing the space so that you bring it back to what it used to be like before you moved in.
Alternatively, you could offer to paint surfaces and take the rooms back to their original intended use, that is if any of them have changed. That way, you can reset the space and provide a somewhat blank canvas for the new owners coming in.
Declutter and remove all items unless specified
Decluttering and removing all the items will help prepare your home for the new owners. Think about what needs to be removed and taken away, as well as anything that might be left behind. You’ll have done an inventory check and likely given the option to the new owners about leaving any fixtures or fittings, or even furniture behind for free or for a fixed cost.
Make sure to move any other items that aren’t otherwise specified, as it’s simply polite to do so, rather than leaving behind a lot of stuff that you no longer need.
Clean deeply
Giving your home a deep clean is definitely important when it comes to preparing the home. You’d want your next home to ideally be in a presentable state, right?
Using a deep cleaning service like Sparkly Maid is a worthwhile investment because that way, you give the new homeowners, a top to bottom clean before they move in.
Offer to change the locks
Not every homeowner moving out will do this but you may want to give the opportunity to the new homeowners to have the locks refitted and changed. That way, the new owners can be rest assured that they have the only keys to the property.
This is something that can be done on the day the keys are due to be exchanged, so will need a little organization on your part to do.
Inform your neighbors
Finally, whilst it might not be something you feel like doing, it’s good to let your neighbors know that you’re moving. That way, you’re able to give your new neighbors, the chance to then introduce themselves to your neighbors who are expecting the new ones to be arriving.
It’s always a nice touch to do what you can to welcome the new owners into what was once your home, into their new one. Use these tips to make sure you’re going that extra mile.
