Everyone wants more sleep. Everyone NEEDS more sleep. But sleep? Not an easy thing to come by. The problem isn’t that you want to avoid sleeping, it’s that life is so busy and so complicated sometimes, that sleep is the last thing on your mind and the thing that you need the most.

Sinking into the depths of soft, fluffy duvets and pillows. Wrapping yourself in a throw and hunkering down somewhere comfortable. Choosing to slow down and relax a little and getting a few hours of sleep a night is a luxury that most people are desperate for, which is why some people go to extremes to make it happen. Some people learn how to roll a joint to get into a relaxed state enough to sleep at night. Others go down the conventional route to get sleeping aids from their doctor to help. More than anything, we can do several things to aid our own sleep at home. When you know how to do it, sleep is easier than ever before. Shall we take a look?

  • Eating well can be the first thing that you do to sleep well. If you’re eating rich foods right before bedtime, you’re going to interrupt the digestive process and feel pretty uncomfortable instead of happy enough to go to sleep. It’s better to give yourself an hour or so to let your food go down before you go to bed, so that you can be a little more comfortable.
  • Learning foods that trigger any discomfort and gas and aiming to avoid those can make for a better night of sleep, too. You can avoid stomach cramps and other pains before you get comfortable in your bed.
  • Get off your phone! If you want to have a good night’s sleep, leave your phone on the other side of the room and don’t lie there until 1am on YouTube. Blue light technology is not a joke and you will feel more rested when you’re not staring at your mobile phone until the early hours of the morning. Take the time to wind down, so get off all screens at least an hour before bed.
  • Speaking of screens, you need to let those go. Remove screens of all kinds from the bedroom and stop staring at them. They’re keeping you awake and you need a decent chunk of sleep so that you can function.
  • Exercising is going to be one activity that you need to do more often so that you can sleep better. Get a routine going with a workout two to three times a week, and you’ll be able to rest better at night – your body will need it.
  • Give yourself a bedtime and wake up time and stick to them. Routine is key for sleeping well, and if you retire and wake up at the same time each day, you’re going to find that your routines will keep you from feeling exhausted all the time.
